Little Cabin Home On the Hill written by Bill Monroe / Lester Flatt tells the story of a man whose home was broken up by adultery leaving him still in love with the woman who forsook him and pining away in the home she left.
I don't condone adultery and I don't sing about it. But this being a great tune, and having the potential to be a meaningful song to all married people (not just broken marriages), I tweaked the lyrics so that the cause of separation was not sin but that thing that happens to us all eventually - death.
It is likely in any group of people that there is one or more widowers who can identify with the lone survivor and the sorrow but sweet memories that remain.
