Jesus deliberately sets up the miracle.  Why?  To provide the basis for some teaching that follows it.<p>Most people focus on the miracle of the feeding rather than the discourse that follows it.<p>Since the normal daily wage was 1 penny this translates to roughly 6 months of labor to be able to purchase the required food.
