The Book of 2 Kings covers a period of about 250 years, from around 853 BC to the release of Jehoiachin from prison in Babylon around 560 BC.
The book is a continuation of the story of the divided kingdom of Israel and Judah, and includes the following events: -> 722 BC: Assyria invades the northern kingdom and takes the people of Israel captive -> 612 BC: The Babylonians take the Assyrian capital of Nineveh -> 605 BC: Babylon dominates Judah and takes some captives -> 586 BC: Babylon destroys Jerusalem and takes additional prisoners
