It is an acknowledgement of SpiritualImmersion into Christ.
If SpiritualImmersion does not take place, the individual is not in intimate, personal relationship with Christ and so has not made their "calling amd election sure".
Those who resist relationship run the risk of hearing: "Depart from me, I never knew you."
