In order to worship the Lord in a true, acceptable, meaningful, and powerful way which is Spirit and Truth we must understand what Truth is, what Spirit is and the reason they are coupled together.
Refer to Spirit And Truth for more detail, but for the purpose of this article let me just say that the Spirit is the Spirit Of God and Truth is the Word Of God which issues from the Soul Of God. Jesus is the Body Of God in which the Spirit Of God and the Soul Of God are manifested in the physical world.
So, for us to visualize an object of worship the eternal Spirit And Truth which is One God made Himself a Body and called Himself Jesus. Hence the object of our worship is the incarnation of the Spirit And Word whose name is Jesus.
Any worship that is not anchored in Jesus, the express image of Spirit And Truth, is misguided at best and evidence of polytheism at worst.
There is a long history of trinitarianism in which worship was of some person who is not Jesus but the 'Father of Jesus'. All such worship has been off target because this person does not exist apart from Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the Father of Jesus and Jesus is the express image of His Father - so Jesus is His own Father .
If you are struggling with what has been presented above, just refer to the links for more clarification.
Assuming you have grasped the fact that Jesus is the incarnation of the Spirit And Truth we can focus on which it really means to worship Jesus.
➛ believe on Him (exactly what is stated above)
➛ hear Him (listen to what He said)
➛ receive Him (accept His Words as Truth)
➛ be filled with His Spirit ( Holy SpiritBaptism)
➛ submit your mind to the Mind Of Christ
➛ obey Him (allow His Holy Spirit to work in and through you)
Such is true worship in Spirit And Truth. It is not a form of godliness. It is not a religious service. It is not even a spiritual worship service. It is manifesting as a Son Of The Holy Spirit - a Son Of God.
Thanksgiving and praise become normal to one who has entered into the state of Worship In Spirit And Truth. Such a person
➛ does not need to be in a congregation
➛ does not need for there to be music
➛ does not need for there to be great singers
➛ does not need for there to be lights and smoke
➛ does not need for there to be gowns and collars and hats.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. |
This is not to say that any of the things mentioned above are bad.
It is to emphasize that worship is a state of existence rather than a moment in time.
Put worship in you and then you can put of your worship, or better said, allow worship to flow out of you.
It Isn’t God’s Fault by Barry Bennett
The level of unbelief in the church is astounding. Doctrines have been created to explain a lack of power, and other doctrines have been created to explain a lack of results.
Some will say that the power of God has “passed away”. The gospel has become an excuse filled ideology of fatalism in which God gets most of the blame for our troubles.
What do you truly believe?
Truly, truly, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. |
For truly I say unto you, That whoever shall say unto this mountain, Be you removed, and be you cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says. |
This is just a brief sampling of the true power of the gospel.
We could speak of the gift of righteousness, the power of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, the armor of God, the better covenant established on better promises, and so much more.
If the “gospel” you are hearing denies these truths or explains them away, then you are believing a lie.
God has graced us with every blessing and has given us the authority to preach this gospel with power. While we have been taught to wait passively on Him, He is waiting on us!
The power is in the church.
God isn’t going to swoop down and make your problems go away. He has given you His Name, His Spirit, His blood, His better covenant, His promises, His gifts, His righteousness, His authority, His faith, His joy, His peace, His power, and the keys to His kingdom!
You are equipped to “reign in life”. The gospel is the power of God if you are believing the true gospel.
