Title: Jesus couldn`t, you can`t, don`t try

The fundamental problem with Religion is that it attempts to encapsulate that which the universe cannot contain.

Anyone who is satisfied with knowing about God can be satisfied with Religion.

Anyone who wants to know God personally must step off of Religion at some point and pass from that which is finite (religion) into the infinite ( God).

That step into the infinite is roughly expressed in these passages:
Truly, truly, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Who `sent` Jesus?
His Holy Spirit who impregnated Mary.

So, we are to believe on Him who sent Jesus?     What does that mean?     It means that we are to believe that the Holy Spirit Father is manifested In Christ Jesus so that
    the Words Jesus spoke
    the Works Jesus did
are the Words and Works of His Holy Spirit Father.

Accordingly, what we believe about Christ Jesus is that He is the express image of God, the Holy Spirit Father making Him His own Father.     Father = Son = Holy Spirit = God who is Spirit Soul And Body in Christ Jesus.

Hearing, believing, receiving and doing the Word of the Lord is the expectation of the Lord for each of us.
When we do so we enter into everlasting life.
We are forever delivered from condemnation.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
When we come to Christ Jesus in faith that He is Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Saviour and Lord we are born of His Holy Spirit.

At that point we are a New Creature.     We are super-human.     We are Sons Of The Holy Spirit.

But the new creation is hidden with Christ in the Holy Spirit.
The only way that it manifests is through a transformed mind.

We do not get the transformed mind at the point of faith.     We get it by absorbing the Word Of The Lord and meditating on it in the Holy Spirit.     We must then walk out that which is in our mind and heart.

Old things have passed away and all things have become new as far as the Lord is concerned, but we must forget the past and see ourselves as the Lord sees us for the effect of the old things to pass away from our minds and hearts.

We must choose to see all things as new in order to experience new things.

For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in the Holy Spirit.
Paul reminds us that the Old Man is dead and we are now New Spirit beings who are In Christ in the Lord.

We must constantly remind ourselves of this reality.     The flesh still remembers the Old Man by which it was shaped.     This is why it is so important to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

How many Christians know these verses and can maybe quote them but fail to comprehend the import of them?

Religion takes us to the mental knowledge of God.
The Holy Spirit reveals the Oneness aspect of our relationship with, no, our very existence IN God!

In the infinite, eternal One we find the rest that Jesus hinted of:
Come unto me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Christ Jesus is our redeemer, our Saviour, our healer, our rest, our victory, our resurrection, our life and our future.     He is Mighty God!
We come to Jesus by believing His Words.
We receive His rest when we receive His Holy Spirit.

There is no other name under heaven whereby we may be saved.

All power in heaven and earth belongs to the One giving this invitation.

This loving God is the Righteous Judge.

In the infinite, eternal One we find the peace that Jesus (through Paul) hinted of:
And the peace of the Holy Spirit, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Why does the peace of the Lord pass our understanding?

Since the beginning, religion has taught mankind that the Lord is angry with our behaviour and He must be appeased - that we must do something or stop doing something in order to have peace with Him.

At the heart of this concept is a basic Truth - the spirit of rebellion and the resultant sin separated man from the Lord.

But the idea that good behaviour is what the Lord wanted from man was all wrong.     The Lord wanted an intimate, personal relationship with each of us.

In order for sinful man to be in relationship with his holy Creator, the Lord Himself had to pay the penalty for sin.     And to fix the sin of rebellion, He had to give us a New Spirit - a part of Himself.

So, it is in the amazing Grace of the Lord that peace is established eliminating worries, fears, and doubt while stabilizing our minds and hearts through the perfect work of Christ Jesus.

The peace passes our understanding because the love of the Lord is immeasurable.

In the infinite, eternal One we find the joy that Jesus hinted of:
And now come I to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
The Word Of The Lord brings joy when we receive it.

The thing that makes Religion so popular is that you can fit it in your life.   Whereas, In Christ, we are absorbed into the One and the One is absorbed into us.

This is a totally different concept from "having religion".   It is a new state of being which, thank God, we will all come to experience when our minds and bodies are translated from corruptible to incorruptible at His appearing.

In the meantime, we need to consider the exact Words of our Lord to be able to deal with the gradations of faith we see in the believers.
The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The thief is Satan who is the inspiration for all the evil in the world.
Whereas the `I` is Jesus who offers us Eternal Life and Abundant Life.

This verse is a powerful statement contrasting the nature of the enemy with the nature of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Note that the enemy takes by force what is ours, while we must appropriate by faith what is ours in Christ Jesus.
The appropriation is not a `one and done` thing.     Rather, it is an ongoing process throughout our lives on this earth.

Jesus has given us His life in giving us His Holy Spirit who is in every believer who has asked to be filled.     We aught to invoke His life into every aspect of our walk in the earth.

Why do you suppose Jesus talked about life in two different ways?   Why did he use the word, "might", on both occassions?

Christ made it possible for us to be born of the Holy Spirit.   That is the first possibility of "life" - to be born again into the Kingdom of God - to receive the gift of Eternal Life.

The second possibiliy is for us to experience Abundant Life.   Abundant Life is what He operated in.   It was not just a function of His Faith in God, but it was a product of Him knowing who He was.   We have the possibility of manifesting as Sons of God in the here and now.

Religion is a teacher, a foundation, a home port.   But the infinite (our God) cannot be experienced properly through information about Him.   Rather the proper experience of God is by immersion into Him and absorption by Him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Jesus is Spirit Soul And Body just like we are .
We are created in the image of God, so
God is Spirit Soul And Body.

This verse reveals to us that God is first and foremost Spirit
    He is the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the Father of Christ Jesus.
Jesus and the Father are one.
Jesus is the express image of His Holy Spirit
    Jesus is God.

Any Worship that does not acknowledge the Holy Spirit does not acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ.     Such worship is futile.

The Word Of The Lord is Truth.

Any Worship that does not honour the Truth does not acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ.     Such worship is futile.

Do we know what this verse means?   Only by revelation!

That which defines God is not physical, but spiritual.   This means that we cannot approach the essence of God through anything physical.   We must approach Him in the Spirit.
He has imparted His Spirit to us which is (the only thing about us which is) able to fellowship with His Spirit.

To worship is to value, to exalt, to honor, to appreciate.   For what do we value, exalt, honor and appreciate this Spirit?

There must be facts about this Spirit that give proof to His worthiness of worship.   Those `facts` are the Truth.   It is the evidence of this Spirit`s nature and character.   This Truth is Jesus - the fulness of the godhead bodily - who, to the extent possible, manifested the infinite One to us.   So, our worship must be in knowledge of Jesus (the Truth) and the fellowship of Oneness by the Holy Spirit.

The disciples were with the Jesus and heard the Truth.   On the day of Pentecost the Truth was manifested in them and their Oneness with the One was accomplished by the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

The simplicity and power of what happened on the day of Pentecost was lost to that generation and remains lost to most of Christianity today.   There is no condemnation upon us for having lost it because we suffer in ourselves by its loss.

Why was the simplicity and power of the Holy Spirit and Truth lost so quickly by the early church and why is it so rarely experienced today?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Holy Spirit Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
The Sin Nature which we were born with is a result of Original Sin .      It was crucified with Christ.

By Faith in Christ Jesus we are Born Again - made New Spirit beings .

Your mind, emotions and body were not crucified with Christ.     You must crucify them by acts of your will.
let this mind be in you -
    mortify your members -
submit yourselves to the Lord -
    resist the devil -
    present your body -
follow peace with all men -
have faith in the Lord -
and so on.

All the action verbs above indicate that our soul (mind, emotions and will) are not instantly perfected in the New Birth as our spirit is .

This verse says that we have Newness Of Life but we must walk in it.     `Walk` is an action verb implying that we have to knowingly and willfully decide to let the New Spirit being manifest.
Otherwise, it won`t.

Spirit Salvation is instantaneous.
Soul Salvation is a process totally dependent on our will while we are in the flesh.

At His return Jesus will finish His redemption work by translating us from corruptible to incorruptible .

In the meantime, our Lord expects us to press toward the mark .

Immersion into Christ Jesus is the point of baptism.     It is not a one time event but a for-all-time state of absorption into His Holy Spirit so that He is in us and we are in Him.

For one thing, how many Christians do you know who confess that everything they were before Christ is Dead?

For another thing, how many Christians do you know who see themselves as raised to a whole New Life?

Lastly, how many Christians do you know who understand that they are supposed to purposefully live out the Life of the New Creature?

The simplicity and power of the Gospel was sifted down to accomodate the laziness and self-will of the `believers` resulting in the Christian Religion.

For us to deal with the great disparity between the ideal and the realized we need only look at the parable of the sower and the seeds - .
What determined the effect of the seed?
The ground .

The ground is us - our natural, physicial, soulish selves.

Only good ground produces fruit.   Good ground enables the seed to germinate, to produce roots, to press up to the sun, to support the stem, the branch, the leaves and ultimately the fruit.   Yes, all this growth happens from the Seed of the Word by the Power of the Holy Spirit but the ground is the environment that makes it all possible.

If you notice, Jesus did not use this parable to condemn.   He was just stating Kingdom Truth.   This is what has happened, is happening and will continue to happen.

So, what do we do about all this religion and not so much newness of life?
Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in your eye, when you yourself behold not the beam that is in your own eye?     You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the mote that is in your brother`s eye.
Edification operates in love.     It happens when we are concerned for the individual as opposed to being concerned about how the individual affects us.

To attempt to effect change in a person for our own benefit is the act of a busybody.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
All of these saints testify to us of the power of faith in the Lord`s promises.     So, just as they perservered, so ought we.

What race are we running?
The race of faith and trust in and service to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Know you not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize?     So run, that you may obtain.
The winner receives the prize.     In earthly contests only one wins.     However, in the Kingdom Of God we all receive the Crown Of Life.     We are all winners.

Paul could not `fix` the Church and neither can you or I.   We must run our race, speaking the Truth, loving fervently in the Spirit, knowing that ultimately the Seed will produce in good ground wherever it is sown.
