Lee fought for states rights which was a bigger issue than slavery.
He was more honorable than Lincoln who thought that his opinion outweighed the Constitution. As a result, 600,000 Americans lost their lives.
Slavery would have disappeared on its own because of changing opinions, the industrial revolution and mechanization.
