You can analyze it and argue it to death but Peter (and to a lesser extent, Paul) suffered from intense exposure to Judaism.
The effects are not surprising.
➛ Judaism was and is all about forms and rituals and laws and observances.
➛ Christianity is all about relationship with our Creator, Savior and Lord Jesus Christ
→ by absorbing His Word and
→ by being absorbed by His Holy Spirit.
Unfortunately their Judaic influence ruined Christianity as eventually the Holy Spirit Of Christ was relegated to some inconsequential 3rd party status instead of the effector of the Kingship of Jesus in each believer.
This resulted in Christianity being reduced to a mere religion rather than the Power Of God to effect His will on earth as it is in heaven.
So, Jesus will have to come, save us, destroy the wicked we have enabled and clean up the earth Himself.
Though that is prophesied it is not what He intended.
