Catholicism spoon feeds some Truth with a bunch of artificial additives to its people. The Word Of God IS the Truth that manifested in Christ Jesus and is taught and reinforced by His Holy Spirit.
Luther read the Word and saw the error of ritual regarding salvation.
Rituals never have and never will save a person.
Jesus said: "you will know the Truth and the Truth will make you free. Come unto Me. I am the resurrection and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me. You will live by absorbing My Word. You must abide in My Word. Be filled with My Holy Spirit. Preach the Gospel."
Nowhere did Jesus imply that His church would be anything less than those who fully received Him as Mighty God, Savior, Lord and King and followed Him in His Word and were filled with His Holy Spirit.
Both Catholic and Protestant believers who trust in ritual, tradition and form need to repent and come into intimate personal relationship with Christ Jesus by absorbing His Word and being filled with His Holy Spirit.
Such will then be prepared to be witnesses of Him wherever they go.
